Kennels, he boarded and trained
dogs and was loved by his clients
and his staff. Seeing the love his
clients had for their dogs, he also
recognized the need for a cem-
etery and started Harperlawn Pet
Cemetery that provided a beautiful
setting for pet owners to memori-
alize their special friends.
Dr. Berman is survived by his
niece and nephews, Annette Pierce-
McClish, Lee Wertheim, Raymond
Wertheim and Dr. Herbert A.
Wertheim.
He was the beloved husband
of the late Rosslyn Berman. He is
also survived by her children, Eric
Simon, Larry Simon and Andrea
Surrowitz.

SHERWIN BIRNKRANT, 83,
of Pontiac, died Feb. 3,2011.
He was the city attorney for the
city of Pontiac for 27 years. He
was also a founder of the law firm
of Birnkrant and Birnkrant in
Bloomfield Hills, where he prac-
ticed with his son Jon Birnkrant.
He received many awards during
his distinguished career, including
the American Jurisprudence Award
and the Wayne State University
Law School Gold Scholarship
Award. Among his many, noted
positions, he was chairman of the
Public Corporation Law Section
of the State Bar of Michigan
from 1973-74 and a member of
the Council, Administrative Law
Section, 1975-76. His career-asso-
ciated memberships included the
American Judicature Society and
the National Institute of Municipal
Law Officers.
Mr. Birnkrant is survived by
his wife of 58 years, Bernice "Sis"
Birnkrant; sons and daughters-in-
law, Stephen and Frann Birnkrant
of Florida, Jon and Carol Birnkrant
of Orchard Lake; grandchildren,
Michael, Jaclyn, Allison and Jeffrey
Birnkrant.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
