Red Thread magazine launch party
celebrates its arrival on the
community's radar.

espite a fresh coating of snow
that blanketed the area, nearly
250 guests joined the staff of
the Jewish News' new sister publication
Red Thread in celebrating the magazine's
launch at a party Jan. 27 at the Reserve in
Birmingham.
The party was hosted by Red Thread/
IN Publisher Arthur M. Horwitz and
Renaissance Media COO F. Kevin Browett.
Renaissance Media is the parent company
of both publications. The invited guests
enjoyed a spread of Mediterranean offer-
ings from Jewel Kosher Caterers as well as
Asian fare from Big Rock Chop House.
Welcoming the attendees (which includ-
ed JN and Red Thread's editorial staffs and
many of the new magazine's contributing
writers), Horwitz and Browett — and Red
Thread Editor Bryan S. Gottlieb — spoke
of the importance of maintaining a rel-
evant line of communication to readers.
"Red Thread captures the personality,
vitality and determination of our com-
munity," Horwitz said. "It presents, with

integrity and an optimistic eye, Detroit
and Southeast Michigan as a great place to
live — and to live Jewishly."
Browett echoed those sentiments and,
as a nod to the many advertisers and busi-
ness leaders there, spoke of the impor-
tance in retaining a relevant link to the
younger Jewish community.
"This new magazine is one of our com-
pany's many efforts to remain engaged
with our readers',' Browett said. "Plus,
it gives businesses an additional tool to
reach their audience'
Guests, most in their mid-20s to late
30s, mingled with editors and sales execu-
tives, and enjoyed the hot lights of a dance
party that belied the wintry elements
waiting for them after the music stopped.
At 9 p.m., the party opened to the
general public with a theme of "Club Red
Thread." And, as the second wave began
arriving, one advertiser in the crowd was
overheard saying, "This is the best party
the Jewish News has ever thrown?' I
