Congregation Beth Ahm in West
Bloomfield will present two Shabbat
programs on the first weekend in
February that will shine the spotlight
on two facets of contemporary Israeli
life — soccer and film — and how
they resonate in the general venue
of Israeli politics and culture. Both
events are open to the community.
On Friday, Feb. 4, following 6 p.m.
Kabbalat Shabbat and a 7 p.m. din-
ner with tailgate-style food such as
barbecued brisket sandwiches, corn-
dogs, chili and grilled chicken. Wear
a sports jersey. Professor Howard
N. Lupovitch will give a talk titled,
"Politics by Other Means: Soccer
Leagues and Israeli Society"
Dinner by paid reservation; but
walk-ins are welcome for services
and the free after-dinner talk. For
kids, Jim Merrills will give an intro-

Abohasira said her goal is to "bring
families together and create lasting
Jewish memories for everyone. Having

makes the task of creating innovative
and enriching programs exciting."
