Spirituality Reb Mimi Carlebach-influenced rabbi-educator headlines Adat Shalom's SYNergy Shabbat. A dat Shalom in Farmington Hills will present Reb Mimi Feigelson as featured speaker at the syna- gogue's SYNergy Shabbat weekend Jan. 14-15. American born, she made aliyah to Israel with her family when she was 8 and lived there until 2001, when she accepted the appoint- ment of mashpiah ruch- anit (spiritual mentor) Reb Mimi Feigelson and lecturer of rabbinic studies at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. She is the only female rabbi to have been ordained by Reb Shlomo Carlebach and brings his melodies and style to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. She is a sto- ryteller. In 1992, she was a core founding- member of Yakar Jerusalem-A Center for Tradition and Creativity. She has worked on behalf of Jewish pluralism among college students and young Jewish leadership in Israel. Adat Shalom Rabbi Rachel Shere got to know Reb Mimi during her own rabbinic training. Friday evening programming will begin at 5 p.m. with a Kabbalat Shabbat service, including a niggun (spiritual melody) and brief teaching session by Reb Mimi. There will be a "Shabbat Shaboom" program for young children and their families at 5:45. Following a casual Shabbat buffet dinner, Reb Mimi will talk about her personal journey "A Contextual Life: From Jerusalem to Beverly Hills." Childcare will start at 7 p.m. and extend until the end of the adult program. At 7:45, children will enjoy a pre- sentation by Wildlife Safari Traditional services will begin at 9 on Shabbat morning. At 10, Rabbi Aaron Bergman will hold a study session "The Greatest of Mystical Love Songs: Lecha Dodi"Rabbi Rachel Shere will conduct an 11 a.m. study session "In God's Image: Jewish Decisions About the Body." Shabbat Religious School starts and 9:30; and Tots & Torah begins at 10:15. An enhanced Kiddush will follow morning services. In a post-Kiddush program, Reb Mimi will speak about "The Foundations of Holy Community. "At 4 p.m., she will lead a Seudah Shelishit discussion on "Conversations at the Doorstep: Escorting the Queen." Rosenblum has joined the profes- sional staff at Congregation Beth Nina Ahm as the West Rosenbaum Bloomfield syna- gogue's new Jewish Family Educator, president Margo Won and Rabbi Steven Rubenstein announced. The position was cre- ated with the support of a grant from Federation's JEFF (Jewish Experiences for Families) program. Beth Ahm's new Jewish family educator holds a bachelor's degree in management from Michigan State University. She is an alumna of Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield High School. Nina is also a teacher in Beth Ahm's Manny and Natalie Charach Religious School and teaches Hebrew school at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township. She is also a substitute teacher at Hillel Day School. Her goals at Beth Ahm are to cre- ate Jewish learning opportunities for families and strengthen their Jewish identities.
