She lived there until 2001, when she accepted the appointment of Mashpiah Ruchanit (spiritual mentor) and Lecturer of Rabbinic Studies at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the Amer- ican Jewish University in Los Angeles. The goal of her work at the AJU with the next generation of Conser- vative rabbis, she says, is "academic excellence en- gaging in spiritual and religious development." Reb Mimi, however, is one of those rare individuals about whom peo- ple say is "beyond the descriptions one can put onto paper." She is a renowned storyteller. She brings the melodies and style of Reb Shlomo Car- lebach to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Those in her presence marvel at how she is able to help them make personal spiritual connec- tions. Reb Mimi has dedicated her life to studying and teaching Torah. She has worked on behalf of Jewish pluralism among college students and young Jewish leadership in Israel. She has taught at the Ma'aleh Film School, and has had numerous articles in Ha 'aretz Literary Magazine. Since her arrival at the AJU, Reb Mimi has been a frequent guest lec- turer at schools and synagogues throughout Southern California and is a much sought-after Scholar-in-Residence throughout the country. She has also taught in Canada, England and the Former Soviet Union and has en- gaged in interfaith dialogues for many years in India. A lifelong student of Torah, she combines in her work both the intellectual exchange of ideas and the harmonious elements of mind, heart, body and soul, through rig- orous text analysis, music and contemplation.
