Having just completed distri- bution of more than 2,000 coats, hats, scarves and gloves to Michigan's needy residents, Howard Howard Tapper Tapper and his family, owners of the 34-year-old jewelry company, will begin this charitable endeavor in January. Dubbed "Making Time for a Good Cause," the program will benefit a different charity every quarter. Kids Kicking Cancer, a charity providing martial arts and guided meditation training to children undergoing cancer treatments, will be the first organization to benefit from the new program. "Giving back to the community is one of our most important cor- porate values," said Howard Tapper, Tapper's owner and president. "I truly believe that this is our respon- sibility as a company and as indi- vidual citizens." Over the course of the year, Tapper's typically supports more than 100 local charities in one form or another. With the help of news media partners WDIV/Channel 4 and the Detroit Jewish News, Tapper's 19th annual coat drive was the most successful drive in company his- tory, collecting and distributing coats and other winter clothing to 14 local organizations and schools as well as numerous families and individuals.
