ad Ezra, Michigan's only
kosher food pantry, received
$85,000 in grants for its
ongoing efforts to feed those in
need from Walmart, the Walmart
Foundation and the Michigan State
Giving Council.
The Berkley-based Yad Ezra,
("helping hand" in Hebrew) provides
free kosher food and toiletries to low-
income Jewish families in southeast
Michigan.
"We appreciate the generosity of
Walmart in helping us to feed and
support the many Michigan families
in need:' said Lea Luger, Yad Ezra
development director. "The face of
hunger is changing; today's hungry
families could be your friends or
neighbors. It is our sincere hope that
the grant serves as a call to action for
others to step up and help fight hun-
ger in this region and across the state."
The grant will help Yad Ezra to
provide two months of food packages
that include items showcased on the
USDA food pyramid, such as fresh
fruits and vegetables and dairy prod-
ucts, for 1,600 families facing hunger.
"As a company, we operate glob-
ally, but look for opportunities to give

back locally," said Michael Collischan,
Walmart regional general manager.
"Walmart, our foundation and the
Michigan State Giving Council are
proud to support Yad Ezra's goals
to increase access to nutritious and
fresh food to the many people and
families who live daily with food
insecurity"
The most recent Household Food
Security in the United States report
from the USDA depicts hunger as a
challenge so significant that it can
only be solved if government, cor-
porations and community organiza-
tions work together. Walmart and the
Walmart Foundation are commit-
ted to applying its unique business
strengths to address the growing
problem of hunger.
Walmart recently announced a $2
billion commitment to help end hun-
ger in America. Through the "Fighting
Hunger Together" initiative, Walmart
and the Walmart Foundation will
give $250 million in grants to hunger
relief organizations and donate more
than 1.1 billion pounds of food from
Walmart stores, distribution centers
and Sam's Club locations, valued at
$1.75 billion.
