AJC visits with foreign
diplomats serving Detroit.

T

he American Jewish Committee-
Detroit Regional Office recently
completed its annual diplomatic
marathon, this year meeting with 10 con-
suls general and honorary consuls general.
This year's marathon, chaired by AJC
Detroit vice president Todd Mendel,
included a one-day trip to Chicago to
meet with consulates based there. Chicago
participants included Detroiters Mendel,
Michael Traison, Eli Saulson, Bryant M.
Frank and AJC Regional Director Kari
Alterman, based in Bloomfield Township.
"Meeting with the consulates on behalf
of AJC and the Jewish people is a power-
ful and important yearly service for us.
We raise issues of deep importance —
including Iran, the United Nations and
the impending threat of lawfare' — and
participate in discussions with diplomats

who pass along our concerns and thanks
to their embassies in Washington, D.C.,"
said Mendel.
The group met in Chicago with the
consuls general of France, Germany,
Israel, Poland and Spain. In Detroit, it
met with the consuls general of Italy and
Macedonia, and with the honorary con-
suls general of France, Great Britain and
Turkey.
AJC is the diplomatic corps of the
American Jewish community. AJC staff
and lay leaders meet with high-level lead-
ers locally, nationally and internationally,
to help safeguard and strengthen Jews and
Jewish life everywhere.
An AJC leadership delegation just con-
cluded a weeklong mission to Germany,
France and Belgium, three key European
countries where AJC maintains an official

AJC Detroit participants Michael Traison, Bryant Frank, Eli Saulson, Todd Mendel,
Kari Alterman and Bob Center with Ambassador Javier Ruperez of Spain, center

presence. "In the last year:' Frank said,
"we've worked locally with members of
the Muslim, Catholic, Chaldean, African
American, Indian American and Turkish
American communities, among others.
"And at our last two board meetings, we
have hosted the deputy consul general of

Mexico and the consul general of Italy."
AJC has seven offices overseas: Berlin,
