Meals On Wheels
Accepting Clients

T

he National Council of Jewish
Women, Greater Detroit
Section's Meals on Wheels
program is expanding its customer
base and accepting new participants.
For more than 37 years, Kosher
Meals on Wheels has provided high-
quality lunches and dinners for the
homebound. The only Meals on
Wheels program in the community
to provide kosher and glatt kosher
lunches and dinners, the organization
prepares and delivers 40,000 meals a
year, five days a week.
"We have our volunteers in place
and are ready and able to accommo-
date more Metro Detroiters in need','
said Rick Emmer, coordinator of
Kosher Meals on Wheels. "These are
trying times, and we want to not only
make the lives of our citizens a little
easier, but also offer companionship to
the homebound."
Co-founded by current Meals on
Wheels Treasurer Esther Rosenblum
of Southfield, Kosher Meals on Wheels
provides meals to all people, regardless
of age or religion. The organization
also assists homebound or disabled
individuals able to adhere to a kosher
diet.
Meals are prepared at the Jewish
Senior Life Prentis Apartments in Oak
Park by Morrison Senior Living Chef
Dave Dry and his team.
Program participants make a dona-
tion within their ability to pay for
meals, with food stamps and Medicaid
reimbursement also being accepted.
Each week, volunteers package and
deliver the meals to dedicated routes
and participants in local communities.
Once a week, they deliver to Wayne
County.
NCJW Greater Detroit Section
provides the additional funding from
proceeds raised at its Council Resale
Shops in Royal Oak and Berkley.
Additional support is provided by Area
Agency on Aging 1-B, the Michigan
Office of Services to the Aging, the
Older Americans Act, the Mandell L.
and Madeleine H. Berman Foundation
and the DeRoy Testatmentary
Foundation.
The program is run in cooperation
with Jewish Family Service, which pro-
vides intake and casework services.
To report someone in need, call
(248) 967-0967 between 8-10:30 a.m.
weekdays.
