Caring. Helping. Mental Illness. I MA Kadima...caring, helping adults and children with mental illness to move forward in their lives. • • Did you know that suicide is the third leading cause of death for youth aged 15 to 24 years and the sixth leading cause of death for 5 to 14 years old? • Did you know that mental illness touches one in every five families? • Did you know that depressive disorders often co-occur with anxiety disorders and substance abuse? Jamie Gildenberg, West Bloomfield High School senior, gifts Kadima... Kadima received a very special donation of $250 from Jamie Gildenberg, a West Bloomfield High School senior. KADIMA PLUS* ...FOR SENIORS The "Kadima Plus" program was established in 1993 in collaboration with Jewish Family Service and Jewish Senior Life. This program was in response to the many seniors in our community who were disconnected and not receiving critical mental health services. Kadima Plus ensures that seniors, diagnosed with severe and chronic mental illness, remain in their homesand connected to supports and loved ones with in-home and case management services and counseling. "One day after school I decided I wanted to raise money for a charity as a way of giving back to my community. I made beautiful beaded key chains and sold them to my friends and family. After raising $250, I researched possible charities where I would want to donate my money. When I read about Kadima, I was extremely impressed with the Child and Adolescent Program that helps children with emotional and behavioral disorders. Working with children, whether I am babysitting or volunteering, is a major part of my life which is why I felt the Child and Adolescent Program, through Kadima, was the perfect organization to support with the money I raised from making key chains. I feel it is so important to educate people about Kadima and the wonderful work they do to help make a difference within our community."
