here couldn't have been a
more exciting conclusion to
the championship game of
the Jewish Football League's fall season.
The B'sherit Boys upset the previ-
ously undefeated Hebrew Hammers
34-32 at West Bloomfield High School,
overcoming a 32-19 deficit in the final
12 minutes of the flag football battle.
Quarterback Bryan Weiss ran for
the winning touchdown from five yards
out with about 2.5 minutes left. The
decisive drive began after a safety that
cut the Hammers' lead to 32-28. Weiss
ate up chunks of yardage with runs
before finding the end zone.
The Hammers had an opportunity to
pull out a victory and they almost did it.
Quarterback Al Broida connected with
Dan Krauss on a pass on the last play of
the game. Rob Krut, who was covering
Krauss one-on-one, made a touchdown-
saving play to pull out Krauss' flag.
It was a crushing loss for the
Hammers. After a perfect 7-0 regular
season, they enjoyed a first-round play-
off bye and won their semifinal game.
The Boys were just 3-4 in the regular
season. They finished fourth in the
six-team league and needed to win two
playoff games to reach the finals.
Even though the Hammers had not
lost, Weiss thought the Boys had a shot
with the league championship on the
line. "They beat us twice during the
regular season, but one game was close
and, in the other one, we just didn't play
well, especially me:' he said.
Besides running for the winning
score, Weiss threw four touchdown
passes in the championship game. Two
went to Krut. Dave Dulberg and Eric
Michaels also caught TD passes.

Josh Jacobs was the Boys' captain.
The other players were Peter Katz,
Jarrod Roth and Dan Serlin.
Broida matched Weiss' champion-
ship game performance, throwing four
touchdown passes and running for
another one for captain Adam Ellis'
team.
The Kosher Butchers and Masada's
Revenge tied for second place in the
regular-season standings at 4-3, with
the Butchers earning the No. 2 seed in
the playoffs because of a tie-breaker.
The Boys, the Chosen Ones (2-5) and
the Chai Flyers (1-6) rounded out the
league. There were 50 players.
Games are 5-on-5 and played in
25-minute, running-time halves on a
50-yard field. Captains select teams
before each season. Players are invited
to join the weekly league, which is
for Jewish men age 30 and older. For
