What you can do to aid the environment:

Gift Giving

• Give what people want and need.
• Choose high-quality products that last longer.
• Give only Energy Star appliances, equipment, electronics
and machinery — www.energystar.gov.
• If giving a car, give an energy-efficient vehicle — www.
fueleconomy.gov.
• Ship in bulk if possible to avoid multiple deliveries and
shipping.
• Shop for locally made items including gifts, food, every-
thing you purchase. It takes energy to transport products
from far away.
• Remember to carry your canvas bag, reused bag or back
pack whenever shopping and say no to that plastic bag for
one or two items. You will not get strange looks anymore!
• Use only recycled paper products with the highest per-
centage of post consumer content available. Or use old
comics or old maps for gift-wrapping paper. Think cre-
atively.
• More ideas on gift wrapping include reusing the many
things you have around the house. Reuse newspaper, fab-
rics, tins, jars, bows, boxes and paper gift tags.
• Give gifts labeled as FSC-certified from sustainable for-
estry or re-used timber. Avoid virgin wood.
