Injuries often sideline professional athletes momentarily, while
recreational athletes are sidelined for months, if not permanently. What
is their secret? Their trainers are often physical therapists, specializing in
Sports Medicine.

While those returning from an injury have long known the benefits of a
physical therapy, it is just recently that older adults are turning to a
therapist before they get hurt.

At Franklin Athletic Club (FAC), physical therapy has been a long
established fixture in their promotion of good health. Their
knowledgeable staff of physical therapists includes General Manager,
Itzi Saar, swim instructor, Erica Gray and numerous personal trainers. In
addition, Franklin Athletic Club also hosts the DMC Physical Therapy and
DMC Sports Performance facilities.

An estimated, eighty percent of Americans will suffer from low back pain
during their lifetime and once an episode is experienced, there is a
strong likelihood that the pain will reoccur. Building strong back and
abdominal muscles to support your body is crucial to warding off back
pain. The goal of FAC trainers is to maximize the health and fitness of
individuals through one-on-one strengthening, wellness and
rehabilitation. Every program is designed specifically for each client's
needs and is supervised by their highly qualified staff, regardless of their
current health. Even if you are new to exercise, a recreational athlete, a
patient recovering from an injury or a top athlete, FAC has a trainer that
is right for you and your needs.

FAC trainer, Mark Floria works with clients from all different
backgrounds, including patients that are recovering from strokes,
injuries and even Muscular Sclerosis.

"Mark is miraculous — he got me out of a wheelchair," says Angela
Whitfield who suffers from MS. Whitfield and Floria are working
together as a team to counteract the effects of her disease. Whitfield
hopes she can continue to work out with Floria until there is a cure for

MS.

Erica Gray, Certified Therapeutic Recreational specialist has been

teaching kids with autism for the last twenty years. The benefits of water
therapy include learning to follow directions, in turn producing a
calming effect on the child. However, Gray feels that "the most
rewarding part of teaching is watching a child learn to swim a lap for the
first time. Seeing the joy in the parents face when they see their child
accomplish something they never thought possible is an amazing

feeling."

FAC Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer, Nadia Al'Naimi comments
that, "the most rewarding part of my job is being able to transition
patients from physical therapy into a safe fitness program and watch
them progress. I carry over the knowledge of injury prevention and
rehabilitation into the fitness programs I create for my personal training

clients."
