Helfy's
Hit
Parade

By Adam Helfman

f you are one of
those people who,
–during breakfast, is thinking about where
to eat lunch, and, at lunch, your thoughts
turn to what to eat for dinner — then we'll
get along just fine. If not, we can still hang!
In the vein of a 12-step program (go with
it), allow me to introduce myself: "Hi, I am
Adam Helfman — and I eat out every meal!"
My daily commentaries on Facebool:,
describing all the marvelous meals I enjoy
brought me to the attention of Red Thread's
editors — and this column was born. Now
I get to call out the best of the best from
those eating escapades; follow me on the
Red Thread Facebook page. Let's eat!

I tend to side with those experts who ad-
vocate that breakfast is the most important
meal of the day.
Mornings usually begin at my favorite
breakfast joint, Ellen's Bakery and Cafe in
Sylvan Lake, where I perform what I affec-
tionately call a "brain dump": the synchro-
nized enjoyment of that first cup of coffee
married to the slight anxiety of what my
day entails.
I lay out all my thoughts and how I'm
going to attack the day. But first — what to
eat?
If you've ever had the pleasure of dining
at Ellen's, you know everything on the menu
is, dare I say, awesome! Chef George recom-
mends the Poached Eggs Forestiere (English
muffin, eggs and mushroom sauce).They
have amazing homemade breads, and
everything is fresh, fresh, fresh.
I usually order an egg-white omelet with
spinach, mushrooms and onions. rvlmrnm-
mmmm. Of course, I am already thinking
about lunch!

M11 DAY SPREAD

-

The only problem I find about enjoying
lunch is: Where to go? It seems like the
hardest decision I face on a daily basis.
Then, of course, I decide on an awe-
inspiring burger. Where, you ask, is the best
burger in town? Not an easy choice, but
I go with Redcoat Tavern. I usually order
the Piedmontese burger (beef from low-fat
cattle —just 2 grams per burger) with
shredded lettuce and a totally satisfying
rich mayo-onion sauce.
Don't forget to order the fries well done
— and since you've saved yourself from the
additional fat, splurge and get an order of
onion rings, too.
Of course, while wolfing down my burger,
I'm thinking ... dinner?

KED TIME/ID

Time for dinner! I'm feeling Italian and
in the mood for Zip sauce — can you tell?
Well, I just visited the new Lelli's, located on
the Copper Creek Golf Course in Farming-
ton Hills. While officially known as Steven
Lelli's on the Green, it's as good as the
original Lelli's we remember — you know,
when our parents drove us as kids down-
town for the multiple-course meal we
consumed before sleeping through a play
at the Fisher Theatre.
Steven Lelli's is off the charts good! The
minestrone soup is just how you imagine it
should be.The Palomino sauce is ridic; and,
of course, the filet (extra cut) with Zip sauce
is as guilty as pleasure gets.
Oh yeah, don't forget to order extra Zip
sauce. What is Zip sauce, anyway? RT.
