their vile deeds" and also "resolutely
takes the position that all Israel is
Palestinian, including Jerusalem,
and threatens war if all its demands
are not met"
Final-status issues seem light
years from being resolved: the
borders of Israel and a future
Palestinian state, the question of
Palestinians and their descendants
returning to Israel, Jewish settle-
ments in the West Bank, water right
and Jerusalem. Beyond these big
five, I would add the status of the
Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, originally
envisioned as part of a Palestinian
state along with the West Bank.
And so I wonder — and wonder
some more — how much in pre-
cious American funding should go
to the Palestinian Authority — and
if President Obama truly has a plan
for funding accountability? ❑

Answering
Israel's Critics
The Charge
At a United Nationsl Security
Council meeting called to dis-
cuss members' global counter-
terrorism response last week,
the Syrian representative "lec-
tured" Israel on state-sponsored
terrorism.
The Answer
Chaim Waxman, Israel's deputy
U.N. representative, responded
by saying that Syria is a
prime sanctuary for terrorism,
hosting the headquarters of
numerous terrorist organiza-
tions and financing, sponsoring
and training terrorist organiza-
tions, and facilitating the trans-
fer of weapons and ammunition
through its borders.
