Raise The Roof
JARC fundraising campaign aims to upgrade the Medow Home.
ARC, the Farmington Hills-based
organization serving people with
developmental disabilities and their
families, has big plans to "Raise the Roof" of
its only home located in Huntington Woods.
To do so, JARC just launched "Raise
the Roof The Medow Home Makeover," a
$100,000 campaign to complete an extensive,
eco-friendly renovation project for the home.
JARC opened the Shirley T. Medow Home
in 1982 with a gift from Abram, Daniel and
Lynn Medow. The home needs a major reno-
vation to better serve the six women who
live there.
The proposed renovation indudes a new
geothermal heating and cooling system, new
barrier-free kitchen, new high-efficiency
appliances and lighting, new three-season
porch, roof and driveway repairs, new native
landscaping and eco-friendly paint.
Extensive eco-friendly renovations will
improve the quality of life for the women
by allowing them to age in place with uni-
j
versally designed, accessible features; and
decrease the costs of heating and powering
the 57-year old home while reducing carbon
emissions.
"It is a great neighborhood project to be
proud of and part of said campaign co-
chair Danny Aronovitz. oanne and I are
involved because it is community-based;
and you can see where donation dollars
are going. It serves as a great example to
your family and friends that your values
are such that you believe in not leaving any-
one behind:'
More than $40,000 already has been com-
mitted to the project. This money includes
grants from the United Way of Southeastern
Michigan, Community Housing Network
and individual donors. The campaign will
culminate with a Graffiti Party at the home
on Dec. 9, where guests will celebrate the
end of Chanukah and will "leave their marl'
on the Medow Home before the renova-
tion. JARC plans to display a piece of the
artwork in the JARC administrative office.
Donations to JARC's "Raise the Roof The
Medow Home Makeover" in Huntington
Woods can be made at www.jarc.org/donate,
at www.crowdrise.com (a new social fund-
raising website) or by calling (248) 538-6611.
Campaign chairpersons are Joanne and
