s fall is upon us and winter
begins to set in, now is a
great time to start thinking
about your next vacation. And why
not take your next trip to a beautiful
Mediterranean destination — Israel!
Even if you've been to Israel once, or
many times before, there are plenty of
new and exciting things for you to see
and do in 2011.
For music enthusiasts, the Israel Opera
will be following up its sold-out Masada
performance of Verdi's Nabucco with his
masterpiece Aida. The three performanc-
es of Aida are just one feature of the 2011
Opera Festiva, taking place June 2-8, 2011.
The festival will also include performanc-
es at Masada and Jerusalem's Sultan's Pool
by Italy's Arena di Verona Orchestra, and
other musical events. More information
on tickets and tour packages can be found
at www.aida-at-masada.com .
And, of course, all of Israel's annual
music festivals — from the Red Sea
Jazz Festival to the Eilat Chamber Music
Festival to the Abu Ghosh Vocal Music
Festival and beyond — will be going on
in the coming year.
2011 is also a great year to visit one
of Israel's newest and most-talked about
museums — the Holon Design Museum,
near Tel Aviv. Designed by renowned
Israeli designer/architect Ron Arad, the
museum is part of a larger project to
turn the suburb of Holon into a cultural
center. The museum's exhibits and col-
lections will focus on innovations in the
field of design, with a special focus on
the history and future of Israeli design.
More information about the museum
can be found at www.dmh.org.il .
And don't miss a visit to the newly
renovated Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
Some special upcoming exhibits include
a three-part presentation of the muse-
urn's collection, each curated by contem-
porary artists who will "present deeply
personal responses to the museum's col-
lections through installations showcas-
ing hundreds of objects:' Visit www.imj.
org.il for more information.
