from place to place — Southfield,
Oak Park and West Bloomfield — as
it grew. Thanking the Zekelmans for
their generosity, he said the school is
designed for girls "to develop all their
talents to enable them to become great
contributors to our community and
klal yisrael [the Jewish people]."
The dedication also included a
keynote message from Rabbi Shmuel
Irons, head of the Kollel Institute of
Greater Detroit in Oak Park, and a
video with teachings and blessings
from a number of renowned Torah
scholars and heads of yeshivot from
other cities.
Irons spoke about the importance
of education for girls. "Everything is
from the woman: the inspiration and
guidance she gives her children, the
support she gives her husband, and
the good deeds and deportment to the
community"
In his address, Alan Zekelman used
the metaphor of Chanukah.
"Just as we bring light into the
world, this building will do just that:'
Zekelman said. "We hope it will be an
elevation of the community in this
world — and an elevation of my par-
ent's memory in the world to come'
The Girls' School is named in mem-
ory of his parents, Harry and Wanda

Zekelman.
Additionally, the new high school
building will be used for after-school
activities, post-high school classes
and community programs, lunch-and-
learns, tutoring and mentoring.
Architect for the school was
Seymour Mandell of Mandell Bilovus
Lenderman + Associates of Troy. The
contractor was Rand Construction of
Brighton.
