The nature of the relationship won't change any time soon; safe, secure borders in a peaceful region aren't in Israel's immedi- ate future. So when former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush told a Jewish Detroit audience of more than 2,300 Yeshiva Beth Yehudah sup- porters that he wanted to share three other inspired reasons why this special relationship has withstood the test of time, I was intrigued. Bush spoke at the Southfield-based Orthodox day school's annual dinner Oct. 24 at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. In his upbeat talk 10 days before Election Day, Bush first spoke with admi- ration how Israel, in one of the most vola- tile regions, has built a thriving democ- racy that is one of the envies of the world.
