MSU senior Ariel Sindel
of Israel is co-president of
Spartans for Israel and on
the Team Israel Programming
Committee. Jeffrey Well of
Highland Park, Ill., is a U-M
junior.
In its
fourth
year, the
StandWithUs
Emerson
Fellowship
selects and
trains stu-
dent leaders
Ariel Sindel
from campus-
es across the United States
and Canada to run events
that teach about Israel. This
year, 37 students from 37
campuses have been hired.
The fellowship is funded by
philanthropists Rita and Steve
Emerson of Los Angeles.
"Through workshops and
presentations, StandWithUs
provides us with the tools and
education to combat anti-Isra-
el rhetoric and, concurrently,
run pro-Israel events," Sindel
said. "Unfortunately, the
conflict dominates the news
and Israel's many accomplish-
ments in environment, tech-
nology, humanitarian aid, for
example, must be continually
highlighted. SWU also encour-
ages us to build coalitions
with campus social, political
and ethnic groups to educate,
provide context and clear mis-
conceptions."
