GIVING
Staying Warm
Local jeweler, Tapper's, collects winter coats
for people in need.
F
or the 19th consecutive year,
Tapper's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry
will collect and distribute hun-
dreds and perhaps thousands of winter
coats and other cold-weather gear to
Michigan residents in need. Typically, the
family-owned jewelry store collects more
than 1,000 coats, with this year's goal set
at 2,000.
From Oct. 28 to Nov. 20, the community
can donate gently used, clean coats and new
hats, scarves and gloves, or cash donations
in any amount, to any Tapper's Diamonds &
Fine Jewelry location as well as at any of the
Tapper's Gold Exchange locations.
Tapper's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry has
three locations: Orchard Mall in West
GETTH F
Bloomfield, Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi and
Somerset Collection in Troy.
Tapper's Gold Exchange locations can be
found at Twelve Oaks Mall, Fairlane Town
Center, Great Lakes Crossing, The Mall
at Partridge Creek, Oakland Mall, Laurel
Park Place, Lakeside Mall, Birchwood Mall
(opening Nov. 1) and Bay City Mall (open-
ing Nov. 1).
Cash donations of $19 or more are
being encouraged to mark the 19th year of
the coat drive. Money that is collected will
be used to purchase coats at a discounted
bulk rate. Checks are accepted and should
be made payable to "Tapper's Coat Drive."
"There is no question that the need
is great:' said Howard Tapper, president.
"Tapper's core values emphasize giving
back to the community. Improving people's
lives is so important to our family and to
our employees:'
Collected coats are distributed to agen-
cies, schools and individuals; the need has
grown each year.
Tapper's often receives calls from
schoolteachers or principals who have
identified a need within their schools and
have heard about Tapper's Coat Drive.
Some of the local agencies that receive
coats include Orchards Children's Services,
Baldwin Church Center, Grace Centers for
Hope, Kids Kicking Cancer and Mercy
Primary Care Center.
Tapper's Coat Drive media partners

on behalf of Tapper's include Hillel Day
