For Al and Evelyn, really living means pursuing their passion for the
theater, not letting financial worries steal the show. Their beautiful
apartment home is completely free from maintenance. So instead
of budgeting for the next costly repair or sky-high utility bill, the
Jacobs enjoy stable, predictable expenses and a worry-free way of
life. Thanks to Erickson LivineAl and Evelyn leave the drama on

"My family and I are blessed and grate-
ful to join the Beth Shalom family," Gamer
said. "And we look forward to celebrating
wonderful times ahead."

The Oak Park synagogue has
planned a weekend of special events
to install Rabbi Gamer as its spiritual
leader Oct. 22-23. The celebration
begins Friday evening at 6 p.m. with
Kabbalat Shabbat services. During the
service, Rabbi Eliezer Diamond will
conduct the installation. Diamond
is the Rabbi Judah Nadich Associate
Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at
the Jewish Theological Seminary in
New York and a friend and mentor of
Gamer. Following the service, congre-
gants will gather in the Beth Shalom
Social Hall for Shabbat dinner.
On Saturday, following Shabbat
morning services, Diamond will
lead a lunch-and-learn discussion
on "Finding Meaning and Relevance
in Prayer for the Modern Jew."
Installation sponsors will attend
Havdalah and an oneg with Gamer
and Diamond Saturday evening.
Gainer spent his early adult years in
New York, Israel and Illinois. He grew

up in Oak Park and graduated from
Berkley High School and the University
of Michigan. After earning a master's
degree in Jewish education from the
Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS),
he served as the International Kadima
director and director of tikkun olam
(repair of the world) programs for
United Synagogue Youth in New York.
Gamer returned to JTS, where he
met his wife, Wendy, to pursue rabbin-
ic ordination. He spent a year studying
at the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem.
He was ordained in 2002 and joined
Congregation Beth Judea in suburban
Chicago as assistant rabbi.
The Gamers have three children:
Maya, 8, Oz 6, and Aryeh, 3.
Beth Shalom is a Conservative
synagogue that has served the Metro
Detroit Jewish community for almost
60 years. It is home to Gan Shalom
Preschool and Parenting Center, an
early childhood education center, and
the Center for Jewish Learning, a reli-
gious school for grades K-12.
"We are thrilled to have Rabbi
Gamer and his family at Beth Shalom,"
said synagogue President Joshua Adler.
"He is warm, open, thoughtful and
committed to building on the spiritual
community we maintained during the
past two years when our very talented
and dedicated members stepped up to
lead services and read Torah. We are
proud of the fact that we can welcome
Rabbi Gamer to a strong, growing
community?'
