blog site, is guest speaker for the
National Council
of Jewish Women,
Greater Detroit
Section's (NCJW/
GDS) annual fund-
raiser, the Women
of Vision luncheon,
Wednesday, Oct.
13, at Congregation
Arianna
Shaarey
Zedek in
Huffington
Southfield.
Huffington will address "How To Be
Fearless in Uncertain Times." In May
2005, she launched the Huffington
Post, which has become one of the
most widely read and frequently
cited media outlets on the Internet.
In 2006, she was named as one of the
100 most influential people by Time
magazine. Her 13th book, Third World
America, was recently published.
Women of Vision will honor
NCJW/GDS volunteer Lois Granader
of Bloomfield Hills, Focus Hope
Co-Founder Eleanor M. Josaitis and
Alternatives for Girls Co-Founder
Amy Good, both of Detroit, with the
Josephine S. Weiner Award. The award
honors an individual or organization
in Metro Detroit whose work benefits
the community, serves as an inspira-
tion to others and reflects the mission
statement of the organization.
Funds raised from the event will
be used for NCJW/GDS's many com-
munity service programs that each
year include providing 750 backpacks
with new school supplies to homeless
students, operating a single-family
domestic abuse shelter, providing
$120,000 for grants and interest-free
loans to college students, packing and
delivering 38,000 Meals on Wheels and
much more.
Registration and boutiques open at
9:30 a.m. Lunch is at noon, with the
award presentation and speaker at
12:45. Boutiques close at 3 p.m.
Tickets for the speech and kosher
lunch are $100. For Huffington's speech
only, tickets are $40 ($20 for students)
and will be held at the sanctuary door.
