Wishing Marsha Well
We were very surprised at the abrupt
way that Marsha Goldsmith Kamin,
former executive director of Jewish
Apartments & Services, who was instru-
mental in smoothing the way for the
merger that resulted in Jewish Senior
Life, was released from her JSL position
("JSL Cuts',' Sept. 16, page 16).
As Fred Blechman, chairman of JSL,
pointed out, Marsha has done so much
to build our senior communities and
to expand the services being offered in
the future. The national recognition and
acclaim that she and her dedicated staff
brought to our community at the time of
the Hechtman II fire, the tireless effort
that she and her staff put forth to ensure
that the displaced residents were placed
swiftly and as comfortably as possible,
and then keeping the displaced residents
in touch with their former home by hav-
ing monthly brunches at Hechtman I,
were very much appreciated.
She spent much time in helping to
plan for the rebuilding of a new and
improved Hechtman II, and she deserves
the gratitude of our local Jewish commu-
nity for an outstanding job.
Most importantly, JSL has lost a very
valuable resource and leader for our
seniors. We hope Marsha finds a new
place soon with which she can share her
skills and talent, and what a fortunate
place that will be.
Engaged Student Base
It is not an unusual occurrence to see
and read about the students at Frankel
Jewish Academy of Metropolitan
Detroit as they take leadership posi-
tions in all of the major activities of
the Detroit Jewish community. Their
participation is nurtured and taught in
their everyday high school experiences.
Whether it's the Friendship Circle,
Walk for Israel, senior citizens or the
Rally for Israel, you can be certain that
Frankel Jewish Academy students will
be in the forefront ("Walk4Friendship,"
Sept. 16, page 15).
We often hear depressing and wor-
risome statements about the future
of the Detroit Jewish community. I
recommend you join with these won-
derful young people in the next corn-
munity event for a moment of joy and
exhilaration.

Responding To Terror
With the terrorist organization Hamas
having savagely killed four innocent
Israelis driving along the road near
Hebron (one was a pregnant woman)
in the West Bank just to protest the
Palestinian-Israel peace plan that
President Obama is negotiating in
Washington, Israel could have acted in
kind ("Abbas: Security Is Key:' Sept. 9,
page 8).
But Israel doesn't believe in savagery
and violence and will respond by other
means.
Minimize Anti-Zionism
Many thanks to Robert Sklar for his
Editor's Letter, "A Boost For Israel"
(Sept. 16, page 5), which provided sig-
nificant recognition to StandWithUs'
Roz Rothstein and Roberta Seid and
their initiation of a SWU-led "boycott-
back" campaign against all manner of
participants in the Boycott, Divestment
and Sanctions (BDS) multi-dimensional
movement structured to destroy the
Jewish state of Israel.
Silence, indifference and appease-
ment of well-organized anti-Semitic
campaigns, such as this one, which
exhibits a steady growth worldwide, will
turn "Never Again" into an unattainable
fantasy if not thwarted aggressively.
In the main, BDS stages clever, grass-
roots, nonviolent activities to demonize
and de-legitimize Israel, and the Jewish
people by proxy.
If we don't try to stop its extremely
persistent efforts today, we could pay a
very high price for our failure.
