University, which has
scheduled several free cancer-
education lectures this fall.
• Thursday, Oct. 7, 6-8 p.m.
— Author and financial expert
Gail Perry-Mason will speak on
"Bouncing Back Financially After
a Cancer Diagnosis:' Cancer treat-
ment cost can exceeds one's health
insurance coverage. She will tell
how to maintain one's finances. The
lecture will be at the Karmanos
Cancer Center, 31995 Northwestern
Highway, Farmington Hills (also
known as the Weisberg center).
• Wednesday, Oct. 13, 6-7:30 p.m.
— Dr. Leigh Solomon will discuss
"The Latest Advances in Ovarian
Cancer Treatment,' also at the
Farmington Hills location.
• Tuesday, Oct. 19, 6-7:30 p.m.
— Rhonda Terry will demonstrate
reiki, a Japanese stress-relieving
technique that can boost the spirits
of those ailing. Her talk will be at
the American Cancer Society, 20450
Civic Center Drive in Southfield.
Survivorship University's found-
ing dean was Pat Milner Sachs,
a cancer educator at the Detroit-
based Karmanos Cancer Institute
who died of melanoma in 2006. Pat
was dedicated to easing the jour-
ney of those with cancer and their
loved ones.

Free Cancer Screening
Botsford Hospital Cancer Center
will host a free cancer screening
and lectures 9 a.m.-lp.m. Saturday,
Oct. 2, at the hospital, 27900 Grand
River, Farmington Hills.
Included are mammograms and
tests for prostate cancer, colorectal
cancer, head and neck cancers, skin
cancer and preliminary familial
counseling for cancer.
