LY'S DESIGN BOUTIQUE 248-626-0886 abbi Aaron Bergman will launch a new Adat Shalom Synagogue pro- gram "HamakOhm, The Place to Reconnect and Recharge your Soul" at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. Hamakom is a Hebrew word for God that was often used by our sages begin- ning 2,000 years ago. It liter- ally means "the Rabbi Aaron place." The idea Bergman is that God fills every space in our lives. God is not distant and remote, but nearby and accessible. Bergman has spelled it HamakOhm so there are no conflicts with other organiza- tions, and, more importantly, he explains that ohm is a word used when discussing electricity and the flow of energy between two points, an apt metaphor for spiri- tuality at its best. Also, he says, the sound of ohm is one of peace and contentment, as in the word shalom (shah ohm). The first stage of HamakOhm will be on Sundays beginning on Oct. 3, following Adat Shalom's 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning min- yan. It will be an hour filled with new and old approaches to prayer, music and meditation. Bergman will be joined by Rabbi Rachel Shere and Chazzan Daniel Gross in facilitating future HamakOhm programs. They will continue on the first and third Sundays each month this fall. "HamakOhm is not meant to replace what we do:' Bergman said, "but to enhance it and even build a greater appreciation for the thousands of years of Jewish tradition and creativity that we celebrate every day at Adat Shalom." This program is geared toward anyone in the community who is seeking to enrich his or her sense of personal Jewish. There is no charge. ❑
