the executive director who has man-
aged their facilities and whom they
came to love and trust is suddenly
relieved of her duties. It seems to us
the residents were ignored and they
are the most important people to
consider.
The JSL needs to look into this situ-
ation and find out where the break-
down in communication occurred. It
should rectify the situation immedi-
ately by notifying residents of what
led to the dismissal. We want to have
more confidence in the board that
is in charge of the facility where our
mother lives.

Letter Signing Context
As a point of clarification, JN read-
ers should be provided with addi-
tional context regarding U.S. Rep.
Gary Peters' signature to the adden-
dum sent to Education Secretary
Arne Duncan.
Congressman Peters' signature was
conspicuously absent from the origi-
nal letter dated July 8, 2010, asking
the secretary to ensure that Title VI
Civil Rights protections are afforded
to Jewish students on campus who
are increasingly subject to anti-
Semitic and anti-Zionist hostilities,
harassment and intimidation. Thirty-
six members of Congress saw fit to
sign onto the original letter before
congressional recess.
While the sentiments expressed
in the "after the fact" addendum,
sent a full month later, are certainly
welcome, the fact that Peters waited
until the eve of his return to the
district for active campaigning to
send the belated addendum raises
legitimate concerns of political expe-
diency over principle.
If Mr. Peters, who is my congress-
man, is seriously committed to pro-
tecting our Jewish youth, then why
didn't he use the power of his office
to introduce meaningful legislation
to affect the statutory change neces-
sary to guarantee these rights and
safeguards?
