Mr. Jospey was instrumental in the success of two Detroit area steel compa- nies and was a stalwart supporter of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and many other charities. This strength carried over into his personal life. He cheered up his family by never complaining about his health although he had been blind the last six years. "Throughout his life, his biggest com- plaint was that his shoulder hurt',' recalled his daughter, Susan Jacob of Franklin. "He was strong and active despite losing his sight to macular degeneration at age 90." Mr. Jospey, 96, of Franklin, died of natural causes on Sept. 16, 2010. His wife, Marjorie, who died last December, also was blind, "but that didn't really stop them': added Jacob. "They got around town and attended social events. And my father still acted as sort of an adviser in the steel business." ALBERT BYER, 90, of Franklin, died Sept. 16, 2010. He was an auto parts salesman. Mr. Eisenberg is sur- vived by his daughters September 23 • 2010 Mr. Jospey was married to his first wife, Anne, for 32 years. She died in 1972. He was married to Marjorie for 36 years. Jacob said her father devoted a great deal of time to the Federation, serving as president and on several committees. "Maxwell Jospey was completely com- mitted to the Federation his entire life observed Robert Aronson, the Federation's senior development adviser. "He set a great example for everyone in the Jewish com- munity" His other charitable activi- ties included the former Sinai Hospital of Detroit, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Maxwell the Detroit Institute of Arts and other organizations. "He was a quiet philanthropist, a very modest man',' noted Jacob. "He didn't want to receive awards and notoriety for what he did." Mr. Jospey graduated from Detroit Central High School in 1932, attended Wayne (State) University and then went into the steel business. He co-founded the Production Steel Co. in Detroit with his two uncles, Louis and Samuel Hamburger, and later co-founded Center Steel Sales in Allen Park. Production specialized in roll- ing steel, providing steel for many well- known structures in the Detroit area. "Maxwell Jospey had steel in his blood:' remarked Jerry Barr of Ann Arbor, one of his employees at Production Steel who later became one of his partners at Center Steel along with Joe Colten. Barr is now president of Center Steel. "We started the company in 1979 as a recession began; but we made a success of it by mainly supplying the con- Jospey struction industry instead of the automotive manufactur- ers, who are in a highly cyclical business:' Barr explained. "Maxwell knew all the ins and outs of the steel industry and loved being part of it. After he retired, he often stopped by or called to give us his insights and advice. I visited him several times in the hospital, and his mind was very sharp." Mr. Jospey belonged to both Temple Beth El of Bloomfield Township and and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Michael Burch of Wisconsin, Trudy and Robert Balogh of Illinois, Dr. Beth and Scott Rubin of West Bloomfield; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jill Eisenberg of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Sara and Mark O'Donnell, Brian Burch, Adam Eisenberg, Stephanie Eisenberg, Jennifer Balogh, Daniel Balogh, Jake Rubin and Eli Rubin; great-grandson, Colin O'Donnell; caregivers, Sheryl and Christina. ELBLING, 83, of West Bloomfield, died Sept. 13, 2010. She was a member of the West Bloomfield Library Board and Congregation B'nai Israel Sisterhood.
