The Credit Union Perspective

People recalled how the neighbor-
hood's families were their extended fam-
ilies; how the parents were their "second
mother or father" who looked after them
as they traveled from house to house.
Birthday parties and after-school
activities were held in basements.
Summer and winter activities like foot-
ball, baseball, ice-skating, tennis and
arts and crafts took place at "The Park"
And if parents wanted to find their son
or daughter, all they had to do was stroll
down to where it was all happening or
stand on the corner and whistle!
The teachers were tough but fair
and maintained high standards. Our
8th-grade teacher, Shirley Schreidell,
would remind her students that she was
preparing them not for high school, but
college. How true that was.
Our dass produced a remarkable
array of teachers, professors, writers,
entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, accoun-
tants, computer-scientists, professionals
of all kinds. We attribute our successes
to the fact that we lived in a community
where parents and teachers cared. We
were lucky.
Fortunately, the weather cooperated
for the reunion. Everyone gathered
around the fire pit and exchanged old
stories while catching up on each other's
current lives.
We also remembered the untimely
passing of classmates Judy Garlock, Jo
Sandra Kaufman, Marcia Levy and, most

the cake at the reunion.

recently, Edwin "Tut" Mentzel. Their
passing is a reminder of the fragility of
our lives as we enter our seventh decade.
Perhaps most special of all is our
shared determination that these re-
discovered relationships move into the
future as renewed old friends. No ques-
tion, the Vandenberg dass of '64 was
given the gift of celebrating the present
and embracing the future while con-
tinuing to honor the "sacred space" that
shaped our past.

Credit or Debit? You Have a Choice!
Most of us are used to going to a retail store and
swiping our debit card at the checkout, but did you
know you don't have to choose debit? If you are like
most consumers when the screen pops up for your
PIN, you enter it because that's what it is asking you
to do. Did you know you have a choice? And, did
you know that credit is actually a safer choice to use?

When you use your VISA Debit Card by entering your PIN you take the risk
of the other people viewing your access number. More importantly, when you
enter your PIN for a transaction you are no longer covered by the VISA Zero
Liability policy. This policy protects your card and transactions from fraud.
When you select "Credit", you simply sign for your purchase which saves you
time and keeps your card protected. What if you aren't asked and it just asks
you to enter your PIN? What retailers don't tell you is that you can simply hit
cancel on the keypad and it will bring up another screen that will ask you if you
want to use credit. It's that easy!

While using a debit card allows you the convenience of not writing checks or
carrying extra cash, it's important to protect yourself from fraud. So by simply
selecting "Credit" instead of "Debit" at the register when making purchases
your transaction is processed through the Visa network, protecting you with
Visa's Zero Liability Policy.

With a BestSource VISA Debit Card, you have access to more than 55,000
surcharge -free ATMs. Stop in and see us or for more information, visit
