What if, as a parent,
you could see no future
or your child? Where
would you go? Would
the school system have
the capacity to help?
Would you feel isolated
and alone? Might you
wonder about other
parents struggling with the same issues?

f

Kadima's Board of Directors and staff considered
these questions over a period of years as a
response to requests that we help children as
well as adults who were diagnosed with mental
illnesses. Looking toward the future for our
children, your children, Kadima sought funding
to begin services and programs for children
and adolescents. The Jewish Fund and the
Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan

responded to our grant requests and Kadima
opened our Child and Adolescent Program in
January 2010.

Modeled after our adult programs and services
and tailored to meet the needs of children,
Kadima's Child and Adolescent Program offers
a parent support group, individual, family and
group treatment, a respite program, social and
recreational activities, case advocacy and crisis
intervention for children 8 - 18 years.

As the Jewish New Year approaches and
we reflect on our future, I ask that we, as a
collective community, not dismiss the future of our
children. Our sweet, innocent, bright and caring
children are our most valuable resource. You
can help and give every child the opportunity to
succeed and to be the "best hope for the future".

Help "Shower" Kadima's
Child and Adolescent Program

The Child and Adolescent Program as had a signi 'cant number of requests for services for
children as young as 4 - 5 years who present with serious emotional and behavioral disorders.
Other requests focus on children and adolescents with various issues including diagnoses of
mood disorders and substance abuse, early attachment issues and many requests for group
therapy, anger management sessions and social skills groups.

Kadima's Child and Adolescent Program will adapt services to meet family needs and will
help with the coordination of services and advocacy related to learning environments. Many
families face stigma as they cope with the problems they are seeing in their children and, at the
same time, they demonstrate resilience, resourcefulness and strength as they work toward family
cohesion and positive growth.

Families with questions or challenges are encouraged to contact Kadima's Child and
Adolescent Program; we know that the earlier the intervention, the better the outcome. For
information on the Child and Adolescent Program, please contact Gail Kaye, PhD, Supervisor at
248.559.8235, extension 133 or gailk@kadimacenter.org .
