Big Ideas for

A Windsor Jubilee

111=1111.-

Cong. Beth El to mark its 50th year.

C

ongregation Beth El began in
1959 in the Windsor living
room of Madelyn and Arthur
Weingarden — the Ontario city's first
and only reform temple.
"Our temple was blessed with the
enthusiasm of young minds eager and
curious to learn more about their her-
itage from a slightly more liberal per-
spective," said Madelyn Weingarden.
Nurtured in its early days by
Rabbis Richard C. Hertz and David
A. Baylinson of Temple Beth El of
Detroit, the Canadian counterpart will
celebrate its Jubilee year with festivi-
ties Friday-Sunday, Oct. 15-17.
The Windsor temple's first rabbi was
Sherwin T. Wine (who years later was
to found the Birmingham Temple).
To celebrate its 50th year,
Congregation Beth El is reaching out
to friends and prior members from
throughout North America to remi-
nisce and renew friendships.
"We welcome back former members
who have moved away — people who
celebrated their b'nai mitzvah here,

who were nurtured by our committed
teachers and influenced by our Temple
Youth Group through the critical times
of their lives:' said Weingarden.
Friday night services on Oct. 15 will
honor current Rabbi Jeff Ableser and
former Rabbi Jonathan V. Plaut and
feature Cantorial Soloist Tracy Atin and
