Federation Slates
Annual Meeting

The Jewish Federation and the United Jewish Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit will hold their annual meeting 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
The meeting will reflect on the past year's accomplishments. It
also will present the election and installation of new officers and
board members, including Michael Horowitz as new Federation
president. Presiding will be Nancy Grosfeld, outgoing board
president, and Foundation President Douglas M. Etkin.
During the meeting, presentation of Federation's highest
honor, the Fred M. Butzel Memorial Award, will be given to Ed
Levy Jr. The award recognizes community members for distin-
guished community service.

Reduce Cooling Costs:
• Place your air conditioner on the shady side of
the home. It works more efficiently there.
• Cook less and do not heat up the kitchen. Eat
more salads and lighter foods that do not require
the stove or oven to prepare.
• Keep storm windows and doors in place during
the summer months if you use air conditioning.
Just as they prevent heat loss, they also prevent
heat gain.
• Wear lighter, looser clothing in the summer.
• Insulate your attic and walls to hold in the
cooler air.
• Use box fans, ceiling fans and attic fans instead
of air conditioners.
• Do not place lamps or other heat sources near
the air-conditioner thermostat.
