ored in the Chicago area
this fall at the Ameinu Midwest Gala
marking 75 years of Habonim.
The progres-
sive Labor Zionist
youth movement,
now Habonim Dror,
and its Camp Tavor
in Three Rivers,
Mich., will receive
gala proceeds from
Ameinu Detroit
Mira Sussman
in Southfield and
Chicago Ameinu.
Mira Sussman, resettlement director
at Ann Arbor's Jewish Family Services,
is one of three Habonim activists from
different generations who will be rec-
ognized at the celebration scheduled
for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the
Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, III. The
others are academic lecturer Rabbi
Herbert Bronstein, rabbi emeritus of
North Shore Congregation Israel in
Glencoe, III., and Chicago business-
man/energy expert Josh Ornstein,
facilities director at Camp Tavor.
An Ann Arbor native, Sussman
grew up in a family affiliated with
Habonim. She received a bachelor's
in Jewish studies from the University
of Judaism (now American Jewish
University), a master's degree in
social work from the University of
Southern California and another
master's in Jewish communal service
from Hebrew Union College-Jewish
Institute of Religion.
Sussman returned home in 2005 to
be near her family, including parents
Ron and Elana Sussman, and also
started that year with Jewish Family
Services of Ann Arbor. In her current
position of resettlement program
director, she works to resettle refugees
from across the world in Michigan
and Ohio. She lives in Ann Arbor with
her husband Doron Yitzchaki and
their two sons, Matan and Ishai.
