Settlements Revisited
Regarding Robert Sklar's Editor's
Letter "One-State: A Nonstarter"
(Aug. 12, page 5) — indeed, one
state is a nonstarter. You could well
point to Lebanon where Christians,
Sunni Arabs and Shiites were sup-
posed to share power. As the Arabs
gained in population, look what hap-
pened to the Christians in a country
suffering from a perpetual state of
civil war.
Seldom mentioned in the contro-
versy about settlements is the ques-
tion, "If Israel can accommodate
more than 1.2 million Arab citizens,
why can't 'the Palestine to be' accom-
modate 250,000 Israeli residents
who are courageous enough to live
there?"

on domestic, foreign and social
issues. Some may have to swal-
low hard when ultimately making
their choice on the ballot since no
one candidate or party will give us
everything that we might believe in.
We can choose to change the face
of our state and federal legislators
and direct our efforts towards help-
ing those that support honoring the
Constitution and oppose govern-
ment-run health care.
We can support those candidates
that propose limited government,
state rights, improvement of jobs
and taxes, protection of our borders,
improvement our national security
and reduction of our federal debt
and spending.

Adat Shalom Recycles
Regarding "Save The Trees By
Recycling" (Aug. 12 page 42), I am
proud to mention that Adat Shalom
Synagogue in Farmington Hills has
had a paper, cardboard, mixed con-
tainer, cell phone and printer car-
tridge program in place for several
years. It has been a real team effort
by the synagogue membership,
office and catering staffs and espe-
cially the custodial staff's Marvin
Brown to make the program the suc-
cess it is.
Members of the congregation have
been very helpful with cell phone
and printer cartridge drop-off. The
support of our Executive Director
Alan Yost and the executive board
has been instrumental in the success
of the program.

Election Focus
Very soon, "We, the People" will have
a choice when we have a chance to
vote in the Nov. 2 elections. It very
well could be the most important
election of our lives and the lives of
our children and grandchildren.
Currently, most of us are in the
process of analyzing our positions

Corrections
• Regarding the letter "Definirig The
Struggle" (Aug. 26, page 6), Imam
Rauf, the leader of the proposed
Park51 Muslim community center
and mosque near Ground Zero, did
not speak at the August 2002 funeral
of murdered Jewish journalist Daniel
Pearl. Rauf spoke at a February
2003 memorial service for Pearl
held at B'nai Jeshurun synagogue in
Manhattan.
• Rita Yarber of West Bloomfield,
a junior at Wayne State University,
worked at Kadima in Southfield this
summer as a Jeanette and Oscar
Cook Occupational Intern through
JVS. (Aug. 26, page 9). Her name was
inadvertently omitted from the list.
