So with civilized living in mind, the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit is hosting a smorgasbord of its own: the Stephen Gottlieb Festival of the Arts, providing a collection of delectable appetizers, of a sort, to the JCC's extensive arts and entertainment events throughout the year. The festival, presented by the JCC's Arts, Culture and Education (ACE) department, will be held Aug. 31-Sept. 5 and feature concerts, food demonstrations, authors, films, Elizabeth Applebaum is a marketing specialist at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit. More than a year's worth of planning went into this year's event, the JCC's second Stephen Gottlieb Festival of the Arts. To guests, it may appear as though each program simply danced in on its two little feet, just like that. But as any chef will tell you, it takes an extraordinary effort to produce each part of a very good meal, from shopping for the finest ingredients to perfecting that adorable. carrot curl dotting an elegant green salad. For the JCC's ACE department, presenting the festival of arts meant everything from securing speakers to schedul- ing rooms where the events will be held, from creating invi- tations to finding all the supplies. "I am very proud to have been a part of the planning for this event and to have had the opportunity to work with such dynamic people as those who chair the many pro- grams and activities in our department': said ACE Chair Carol Weintraub Fogel. "The synergy that has been created by working together has been thrilling. Together, we present the Stephen Gottlieb Festival of the Arts as a way of saying to the community: As summer ends, we begin anew."
