OAKLAND COUNTY'S PREMIER DIVORCE Federations Cite Pappas L ongtime volunteer and com- munity leader Susie Pappas has been named Detroit hon- oree for the Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award, to be pre- sented in November at the International Lion of Judah Conference. V The award is presented by the National Women's Philanthropy Susie Pappas Board of the Jewish Federations of North America. It recognizes extraor- dinary women who have set the standard for philanthropy and volun- teerism. Pappas, of Bloomfield Hills, has worked for many years with Jewish organizations throughout Metro Detroit and is a strong supporter of the State of Israel. She has been especially involved in the Federation's Women's Department, where she was chair of numerous committees as well as serving as the depart- ment's Campaign chair and president. Among Pappas' projects was the Mosaic Mission, a Federation trip to Israel that recruited and devel- oped younger leadership within the Women's Division. "Susie exemplifies the best in leadership and commitment to the Jewish community:' said Marcie Orley, president of the Federation's Women's Department. "Her tenure as Women's Department president was marked by increased participation and giving by younger women. Thanks to Susie's efforts, we now have a significant group of younger lions. She is an incredibly deserving Kipnis-Wilson/ Freidland awardee." In addition to her support for the Federation, Pappas has served on the local boards of the Jewish Family Service, Hebrew Free Loan Association and the Jewish Community Center. She has chaired donor events for Israel's Bar-Ilan University, Yad Ezra in Berkley and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot. She is a founding member of the Detroit Jewish Women's Foundation.
