n June 13, Temple Israel's

2009-2010 third-grade class
dedicated a community
art project to the Children's Hospital
of Michigan Specialty Clinic in West
Bloomfield.
Titled "The Rainbow Fish Project:'
it was led by Wendy and Marjorie
Benson, two of the third-grade teach-
ers at the West Bloomfield synagogue.
All 175 wooden fish were hand-cut by
Alan Benson of Oak Park.
The third-graders spent the last few
weeks of school learning about the
different things people can do to help

others in the world. This mitzvah proj-
ect tied into the new CHAI curriculum
of g'milut chasadim (personal acts of
loving-kindness) and, more specifi-
cally, into their lesson of bikur cholim
(taking care of the sick).
The wooden fish are hanging on the
once bare walls of the clinic. While
patients and families wait to see the
doctor, they will now have something
to distract and occupy them during
this occasionally grueling and stressful
time.
The clinic is at 5635 W. Maple, West
Bloomfield.
