ozens of golfers grabbed their clubs and enjoyed a beautiful day on the fair-
way that will ultimately enhance the lives of local residents living with men-
tal illness. About 175 people took part in the ninth annual golf classic hosted
by the Southfield-based mental health agency Kadima.
The day of golf July 19 at Franklin Hills Country Club in
Farmington Hills also included lunch, cocktails, dinner, live
and silent auctions, and a raffle. An afternoon on an 85-foot
yacht in Florida, an autographed Miguel Cabrera jersey and
baseball, Tiger suites and more were among the auction items
up for bids.
"It's gratifying to have the community support our event
each year and ensure critical funding for our Lois and Milton
Y. Zussman Activity Center;' said Kadima president Sandi
Tamaroff of West Bloomfield. "The center serves an average of
40 clients a day with creative and stimulating programming."

Shabbat lunch and learn every Friday. After twenty-five years of serving adults with
chronic and severe mental illness, Kadima has also started a child and adolescent pro-
gram for young people ages 8-18. A three-year grant from Detroit Jewry's Jewish Fund
enabled the program to begin in January.
"Prior to seeking grants, we surveyed 200 child psychiatrists in the tri-county area
and learned that, of the respondents, 87 percent indicated a critical and unmet need
to refer children with serious emotional and behavioral disorders," Tamaroff said. "So
far, our program has received a strong response from the community."
Spotted in the golf classic crowd were: event co-chairs Eli Saulson of Franklin and
Keith Lewis of Birmingham; Mindi Fynke, Eric Grosinger, and Dan Serlin, all of
Farmington Hills; Julie and Rick Zussman, and Janet Voisine, all of Huntington
Woods; Matt Lester and Carl Gross, both of Bloomfield Hills; Richard Winkelman
and Stan Bershad, both of West Bloomfield; and Ted Wagner of Birmingham.
