THE SPIRIT OF A PIONEER.
Walk. Run. Bend.Turn. Most of us
don't think about simple mobility and flexibility until our later years.
But when joint and bone pain are a part of everyday life--suddenly,
these simple movements become nearly impossible.

At Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital,
caring is critical.
A
prostate cancer
diagnosis is never
welcome, but in
March it carried a
double-punch for David Kirby of
Waterford Township. He and his
family had plans to visit Disney
World in Florida in April, with
airline tickets and hotel reserva-
tions already paid for.

along with their moms and dads,"
he says.
Prostate cancer is typically
treated with nine weeks of radia-
tion. But Kirby, 63, was in for a bit
of luck.
He was referred to Dr. Jeffrey
Forman, a radiation oncologist
with 21st Century Oncology in
Farmington Hills, who is recruit-
ing men with early-stage prostate
cancer for a research study on
reducing radiation treatment time
from nine weeks to 1'/2 weeks.
The full course can be accelerated
because individual radiation doses
are higher than the doses in the
longer course.
"I said, 'You know, that's exactly
what I'm looking for,"' Kirby says.
His PSA (prostate-specific
antigen) dropped from 7.7 before
treatment to 0.9 afterward and his
prostate is "100 percent" normal in
size, he says.
Forman, the area's principal
investigator for this research study,
says: "I don't think we could have
asked for a better result."
