Pitt Child Center Accredited
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's Sarah & Irving Pitt
Child Development Center has received
accreditation from the National Association
for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC), an organization of early child-
hood professionals.
"We're proud to have earned the mark
of quality from NAEYC and to be recog-
nized for our commitment to reaching the
highest professional standards',' said Pitt
CDC Director Fredelle Schneider. "NAEYC
accreditation lets families know that chil-
dren in our program are getting the best
care and early learning experiences pos-
sible."
Located at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield, the Pitt CDC provides
infant, toddler, preschool and kindergarten
programs.
It includes computer and science labs,
weekly instruction in swim, music and
gym, flexible scheduling, Jewish holiday
observance and an academic readiness and
values curriculum, all in a nut-free environ-
ment.
To earn NAEYC accreditation, the Pitt
CDC completed a self-study process in
which it measured the program and its ser-
vices against more than 400 accreditation
criteria.
Today, almost 8,000 programs serving
1 million young children receive NAEYC
accreditation.

ing this foundation anew. The first steps in
doing so are to avoid moves that deepen the
growing alienation that threatens to spin
out of control.
World Jewry must be very careful and
certain about the battles it chooses to fight
and the criticism it levels.
It must be careful not to allow its own
political denominational politics to lead
it into confrontations that are more about
form than substance. Israel, for its part, has
to avoid language and policies that are both
hurtful and harmful to our relationship and
must not only avoid doing new harm, but
also actually begin to repeal the harms of
the past and begin instituting policies of
healing.
It is time to reclaim our shared loyalty
and commitment and join together in
building an Israel that can serve as the cor-
nerstone for our love. El
