Q: Michigan/Israel Cooperation — Would you lead/support efforts to
promote trade, security cooperation and cultural exchanges between
Michigan and Israel?
A: I recognize Michigan has a strong Jewish community and heritage, and I would
work to promote economic ties to Israel.

Q: Creationism — Should "intelligent design"/creationism be part of
the science curriculum in public schools?
A: No. Intelligent design and creationism are not scientific theories and are best
taught in comparative religion or philosophy courses.

pose specific solutions.

Q: Nonprofit Support — With shrinking state funding for social ser-
vices, how must the state support and facilitate the efforts of nonprof-
its that are picking up the slack?
A: Without reform, first in health care spending, it would be irresponsible for the
state to add new commitments. If left unaddressed, our fiscal situation will worsen.

budget crisis to lessen the need for assistance. Only when the deficit is resolved will

most affected is to improve the business climate to allow the creation of jobs. This
would, in turn, lessen the need for reliance on safety net services.

Q: Jobs/Economy — What would you do to get people jobs that can
support a family, and how long will it take?
A: Government doesn't create jobs but rather creates a climate conducive to job creation.

Q: Prison Propaganda — What can be done to monitor and filter mate-
rials coming into our prison system so it doesn't become a recruiting
ground for Islamic extremists and domestic terror?
A: Prison policy should be focused on keeping offenders locked up and rehabilitat-
ing them for eventual reentry. I would support policies to those ends especially to
reduce recidivism and look to the department as well as experts in the field to pro-
