PROFESSOR
JOSEPH DEMENT,
of Bloomfield Hills,
died July 7, 2010.
He was professor
emeritus of English,
language and lit-
erature at Oakland
DeMent
University; he
retired in 1990.
Professor DeMent is survived by
his life partner of 30 years, Rachelle
Silberberg; daughters and sons-
in-law, Elaine Case and Bill Wiktor
of Minnesota, Susan and Michael
Haifleigh of Northville, Ned and
Suzana DeMent of Massachusetts;
grandchildren, Mike and Heather
Wiktor, Phil and Meredith Wiktor,
Laura and Gabe Cook, Carolyn
Wiktor, Susan Case, Christopher
Haifleigh, Taylor DeMent, Kyle
DeMent, Avery Campbell and Felix
Campbell. He is also survived by
Rachelle Silberberg's children, Eric
Silberberg and Julie and Shane
Campbell of Oak Park.
Professor DeMent was preceded
in death by his former wife and
mother of his children, Catherine
Yovich.

of Ohio; daughter and son-in-
law, Susan and Michael Light of
Commerce Township; sister, Deena
Rosen of Farmington Hills; grand-
children, Brandon Light, Dylan

Dubin, Ariana Dubin, Eli Dubin,
James Dubin.
Mrs. Dubin was the loving sister-
in-law of the late Marvin Rosen.

BETTIE FIELDS, 82, of Royal Oak,
died July 5, 2010.
She was the owner of women's
clothing stores Just Things.
Mrs. Fields is survived by her
son and daughter-in-law, Mitch and
Sonia Fields of Royal Oak; grand-
children, Kessa Cantrell, Amy Fields,
Emily Fields and Zoe Fields; great-
grandsons, Joel and Jake Cantrell.
She is also survived by Marlene
Scarborough.
Mrs. Fields was the beloved wife
of the late Charles "Chuck" Fields;
the loving mother of the late Joel
Barry "JB" Fields.
Interment at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions may

SYLVIA GLEICHER, 95, of
Southfield, died July 4, 2010.
She is survived by her nieces,
Elizabeth Gliecher (Mark Granzotto)
and Sara Gleicher (David Fabbri);
devoted cousins, Debby (Neil)
Dorfman, Bobby Mohr; many other
loving family members and friends.
Ms. Gleicher was the dear sister of
the late William Gleicher.
Interment at the Beth El
Memorial Park Cemetery in

JUDITH B.
HERMAN, 82, of
Farmington Hills
died July 4, 2010.
She was born and
raised in Detroit
and graduated from
the University of
Herman
Michigan in 1949.
A charter member of Congregation
Beth Shalom, Mrs. Herman went on
to become a dedicated and highly
respected teacher at Hillel Day
School for 36 years. She is remem-
bered fondly by former students and
colleagues for the positive influence
she had on their lives.
Although involved in many activi-
ties, Mrs. Herman derived her great-
est joy from being with her family,
who will forever cherish her and
keep her in their hearts. Throughout
her long illness, she retained her
class, grace and gentle manner.
Mrs. Herman is survived by her
beloved husband of almost 61 years,
Martin Herman; devoted daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Marsha and
