B

orn in Radom, Poland, Helen Ritter
came to the United States when
she was 8. This year, she celebrates
her 100th birthday. For 20 years at Teitel
Apartments in Oak Park, she has managed
the showcase of donated items, which brings
funds to the Apartments; she sits on the
resident board and shapes decisions affect-
ing programs; she helps with meal service
and the sundries store; she tutored Russian
immigrants in English; she taught fellow
residents mah-jong and other games; and
she is known to all by her spirit and dedi-
cation. Mrs. Ritter has received numerous
awards for volunteering her services, including the State of Michigan Volunteer
Award. Her family —the Joyrichs and Kozlowskis — and her friends the Olsons
—are all celebrating this special occasion at various events. All of them join
together to say mazel toy.
