Existence of God: A Work of Fiction

tually explores the great debate of our

In Hidden Things (Atria; July 6),
author Pam Jenoff (Almost Home)
brings back Foreign Service diplomat
Jordan Weiss, still haunted by unan-
swered questions about the death of
her college boyfriend Jared and thrust
into an international counterfeit ring
that involves a very rare vintage of
wine that disappeared in the 1940s.

Allegro Goodman (Intuition) updates
Jane Austen for the dot-com era in
The Cookbook Collector (Dial Press;
July 6), a tale of two sisters — one a
dot-corn whiz, the other a philosophy
post-grad who works at an antiquar-
ian bookstore — who both seek love.

In As Husbands Go (Scribner; July 6),
author Susan Isaacs introduces us to
Susie Gersten, who is left alone with
her triplets in a big suburban house
when her plastic surgeon husband
is found dead in a prostitute's apart-

ment. What better sidekick to track
down the truth than Susie's rogue
granny, Ethel.
