alph Zuckman, execu-
tive director of Clover
Hill Park Cemetery in
Birmingham, was elected to a sec-
ond two-year term as chairman of
the Jewish Cemetery Association of
North America (JCANA), formed
two years ago.
The idea for
the associa-
tion emerged in
June 2008 at
the National
Chevra Kadisha
Convention in
Edison, N.J.
Ralph
JCANA is
Zuckman
reaching out to
independent
Jewish cemeteries throughout
North America, thought to number
several thousand, to join its ranks
for the preservation of Jewish cem-
etery continuity. JCANNs mission is
supported by creating community
awareness related to end-of-life
issues and maintaining Jewish
burial practices.
JCANA has become a nationally
recognized professional organiza-
tion that is consulted on national
legislative issues affecting religious
cemeteries.
Its second annual conference
was held June 6-8 in Atlanta. Jewish
cemetery managers and synagogue
administrators heard presentations
pertaining to Jewish thought on
cremation interments and inter-
faith cemeteries along with other
issues of interest to the operation of
a Jewish cemetery. ❑
