He was the founder of Cushion 'N' Cue, which is now, Snookers, with five locations, Abrams and the owner of McVee's and Mr. Joe's. For 17 years, Mr. Abrams was an Oak Park councilman and mayor pro-tem for four years, a member of B'nai B'rith and a past president of Temple Beth El Brotherhood. He is survived by his wife, Louise Abrams; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Paul Weinstock of Farmington hills; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Wendy Abrams of West Bloomfield, Michael and Julie Abrams of Bloomfield Hills; Louise's children, Steven and Risa Richter; grandchildren, Ben Weinstock, Jordyn and Michael Goldman, Katie and Matt Waldstein, Jessie Abrams, Jaime and David Sheridan, Tony Abrams, Sam Abrams and Max Abrams; Louise's grandchildren, Ahron Shalom, Shaindy, Chana Esther, Moishe and Avi Richter; great-grandchildren, Mia and Shane Goldman, Ella and Jake Sheridan; sister, Phyllis Kahn; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dorfman Chapel. BURTON L. CHASSIN, 92, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died June 8, 2010, after a brief illness. A for- mer Detroiter, he was a resident of Los Alamitos, Calif., for the past 10 years. He was born and grew up in Buffalo, N.Y. He served in the Army Air Forces in World War II with post- ings in Kearney, Neb., and Great Bend, Kan. During this time, he met Phyllis (Kapetansky) of Detroit; and they were married Feb. 11, 1945. After the war, they settled in Buffalo, where Larry was born. From there they moved to Detroit, where Lynne and Sue were born, then moved to Oak Park, Mich., in 1963. Mr. Chassin worked as an accountant and then for many years as a shoe fitter and store manager for Hack Shoes. He was an active member of the Jewish community of Detroit, work- ing for more than 30 years as a Sunday school teacher at several synagogues. He and his family were longtime mem- bers of Temple Israel, first in Detroit then in West Bloomfield. After his retirement from Hack Shoes, Burt and Phyllis moved to Southfield; and he took a position as a courier for the Detroit Jewish News. In 2000, Burt and Phyllis moved out to Los Alamitos, Calif., where he worked as an active vol- unteer at the Long Beach VA Healthcare System up to the week of his passing. Mr. Chassin had a great sense of humor and was warm, welcoming, and devoted to his family, friends and com- munity. He was a World War II veteran and later became the chief missile inspec- tor for the United States Department of Defense. Mr. Fleisher is survived by his sons, Michael Fleisher and Helene Levy of Las Vegas, Nev., Jay Fleisher of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Aaron and Samuel; former daughter-in-law, Vivian Friedman; his beloved dog Buddy. COLEMAN FRIEDMAN, 74 of Windsor, Ontario, died June 9, 2010. Coleman, a lifelong resident of Windsor, was a chartered accountant and busi- Friedman nessman. He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Life Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. An avid boater, he was always eager to entertain fam- ily and friends on his boat, Skol. He enjoyed being the "life of the party" and his friends will miss his wonder- ful sense of humor and his storytelling skills. In healthier times, he was an accomplished skier, both on water and on the slopes. Mr. Friedman was a collector of fine art and was particularly proud of his collections of glass and Erte sculptures. He was a member of the Windsor Yacht Club, Congregation Shaar Hashomayim and Congregation Beth El. Mr. Friedman is survived by his sis- ter, Shelly "Rochelle" (Peter) Cooper of West Bloomfield; nieces, Lisa Heller; and her children, Zachary and Jory Max of New Jersey; Marla (Dr. Craig) Singer, and their children, Noah, Ava and Ashley of Bloomfield Hills. He was predeceased by his parents Max and Clara Friedman. Services were held at Congregation Beth EI, 2525 Mark Avenue.
