Krakoff Bar Mitzvah Year
On Saturday, June 19, Congregation Shaarey
Zedek of Oakland County will honor Rabbi
Joseph H. Krakoff with a special Shabbat
service and Kiddush lunch to celebrate his
"bar mitzvah" year at the congregation.
Krakoff came to
Shaarey Zedek in 1998
after receiving his rab-
binic ordination and
a master's degree in
Hebrew letters from
the Jewish Theological
Seminary in New York.
He is deeply involved
Rabbi Krakoff
with the Federation
and serves on the
board of governors as well as serving
with the Hermelin-Davidson Center for
Congregation Excellence.
Most recently, Krakoff was one of 15
rabbis from across the country selected
to participate in a face-to-face meeting
with President Obama's Chief-of-Staff
Rahm Emanual to discuss the relationship
between the United States and Israel.
The community is invited to join as the

congregation honors Rabbi Krakoff and
celebrates his contribution to the synagogue
and the community.

Shabbat Learning
Jewish learners from throughout Southeast
Michigan, including teens, are invited to
a Shabbat morning with Torah study in a
traditional bet midrash (study hall) format,
at Congregation Beth Ahm, 5075 W. Maple,
West Bloomfield, on
Saturday, June 12.
Rabbi Steven
Rubenstein will lead the
bet midrash from 10:30
to 11:15 a.m. as part of
Shabbat morning ser-
vices. Services will begin

at a special early time of

9 a.m. that day.

Following the Torah
reading, the congrega-
tion will move from the main sanctuary
into Nusbaum Hall for the 45-minute bet

midrash. Services will resume 11:15 a.m.
and will be followed by Kiddush and Beth
Ahm's weekly Shabbat Song Circle.
Advance registration is not required. All
study materials will be provided in English
translation as well as in the original Hebrew
and Aramaic.
Shabbat Korah at Beth Ahm that day will
feature complimentary drop-in child care
for babies and toddlers, Tot Shabbat (activi-
ties for children ages 3-5 accompanied by
a parent or grandparent), Shabbat Club
(supervised activities for children in grades
K-5) and Birthday Shabbat (presentation
of a gift book to children whose birthdays
are in June). Reservations are required for
Tot Shabbat, Shabbat Club and Birthday
Shabbat.

Beth El Graduation
On Friday, June 4, Temple Beth El Nursery
marked the graduation of 30 prekindergar-

ten children.
The youngsters, mortarboards securely
on their heads, walked across the stage to
receive their preschool diplomas and "keys"
to the Bloomfield Township temple.
This year's graduates are Sydney Arnkoff,
Shay Bednarsh, Tony Carson, Joey Chaney,
Sam Chaney, Penelope Cohen, Benjamin
Diskin, Philip Diskin, Gisele Doelle, Dylan
Fishman, Brady Goldman, Harlan Goldman,
Lyle Hoffman, Mia Jacobson, Joey Johnson,
Jack Lewis, Nathan Modell, Libby Neuvirth,
Julia Raphael, Ella Shane, Ashley Singer,
Henson Strasberg, Jacob Tompkins, Tessa
Trivax, Lola Weber, Ian Weinberg, Lucy
Weiner, Avery Weishaus, Charlie Welham
and Dylan Wolf.

Sisterhood Installs Board
Cindy Bolokofsky and Rochelle Nelson will
share the leadership of the Temple Beth El
Sisterhood next year, serving as co-presi-
dents.
The duo assumed their posts June 9 at
an installation dinner at the Bloomfield
