S
unshine and blue skies set the scene for a spectacular spring day at the Detroit
Zoo in Royal Oak as more than 2000 JARC supporters answered the "call
of the wild," flocking to the zoo May 27 for the organization's 12th annual
SpringElation event.
Participants enjoyed a picnic dinner, music, dancing, games,
wildlife exhibits, raffle prize packages, face painting, crafts and
more. More than 130 volunteers kept the family-friendly event
running smoothly.
"We try to make it a fun, inclusive event that everyone can
enjoy:' said Rena Friedberg of Huntington Woods, JARC's chief
development officer. "We cannot begin to describe how grateful
we are to our sponsors, volunteers and donors"
The Berkley High School jazz band made a special appearance
during this year's event along with the Detroit Tigers official
mascot PAWS. FifthThird Bank, Bienenstock Court Reporting,
Quicken Loans and Gilbert Films were corporate sponsors.

cated to enabling people with disabilities to live full, dignified lives.
"SpringElation raises money to support our Shirley and Merle Harris Children and
Families Division:' said JARC's CEO Rick Loewenstein of West Bloomfield. "The money
raised from this event will provide a range of vital services, including our Club Scene
program for adults and teens, in-home respite services by trained professional staff, the
school inclusion program which serves children in five local day schools, and advocacy
to help families navigate public education and service systems."
Spotted in the SpringElation crowd were: event co-chairs Jenny Kaplan and Ron
Applebaum, both of Huntington Woods; Stephanie and Josh Freedman, Renee and
Craig Erlich, Sharon and Howard Eisenshtadt and Stacey and Marc Wittenberg, all
of Bloomfield Hills; Lori and Rob Nusbaum of Franklin; and Chaya and Joey Selesny
of Oak Park.
