four questions

Dr. Mitchell Wayne chats with Platinum

By day, he's a husband and father and a

podiatrist to countless patients across

Metro Detroit. But in his off time,

DR. MITCHELL WAYNE of Bloomfield Hills

is "Dr. Tee-Time." The 51-year-old has been

playing golf for 30+ years and is known by

his peers at Tam-O-Shanter Country Club in

West Bloomfield as one of the best amateur

golfers around. Dr. Wayne is a 10-time club

tournament champion at Tam-O-Shanter

and holds the course record for the lowest

amateur score — 65 — set in 2008. "I love
golf because people can play the game well

and be competitive into their later years,"

Dr. Wayne says. "I also love the camaraderie
with the people you choose to play with."

Dr. Wayne is a graduate of Michigan State

University and Illinois College of Podiatric

Medicine. He owns a private practice in West

Bloomfield and also is on staff at Botsford

Hospital in Farmington Hills and facilities of
the Detroit Medical Center. He and his wife, Robin, have two children: Spencer, 20, a student at the

University of Michigan, and Jake, 16, a 10th-grader at Birmingham Groves High School. Here, we ask

Dr. Mitchell Wayne to take a "swing" at our version of the Four Questions.

WHAT BOOK, CD OR OTHER
MEDIA DO YOU LONG TO
SHARE?

The most recent book I've read that I
would share is Every Shot Must Have
a Purpose by Pia Nilsson and Lynn
Marriott (two renowned golf coaches).
As you can tell from the title, the book
can help with the mental part of the
game of golf. But, what surprised me
was how it has also helped me with
everyday tasks in life.

IF YOU COULD HAVE
BRUNCH WITH ONE
BIBLICAL OR HISTORICAL
FIGURE, WHO WOULD IT BE?

That's a tough question to answer.
There are many figures in Jewish his-
tory that come to mind. Golda Meir,
for her impeccable leadership skills;
Theodor Herzl, who truly was vision-
ary (he wanted the Jewish people to
have a place to call their own). Last
but not least, David Ben-Gurion

(Israel's first prime minister), who by
all means was the iron hand behind
the State of Israel.

WHAT IMPORTANT LIFE
LESSONS HAVE YOU
RECENTLY LEARNED?

The most important things to me
in my life are the people I love: my
family and close friends. Life is very
precious and as you mature, you learn
how quickly you can lose a family
member/friend. So I really try to enjoy
those special people and never ever
take them for granted.

WHAT WOULD PEOPLE
BE SURPRISED TO KNOW
ABOUT YOU?

There are not a lot of surprises with
me. What you see is pretty much what
you get. On second thought, people
might be surprised to know I'm a
much better podiatrist than I am a
golfer! _
