From a casino-style Texas hold'em
tournament to a cigar lounge,
Knollwood Country Club in West
Bloomfield was transformed into
a perfect place for guys to be guys.
About 350 people attended the
annual "Guys Night Out" April
26 to support Friends of the Israel
Defense Forces. Rick Kovacs of West
Bloomfield founded the event four
years ago; to date it has raised more
than $500,000.
"I support Friends of the IDF
because -without Israel as a backbone,
we may not be so free to practice
Judaism around the world," said
Kovacs. "This event supports our
brave young soldiers who could easily
be our own sons, daughters, nieces
and nephews."
Guys in attendance enjoyed stroll-
ing appetizers, a food station and
open bar. There were also neck and
shoulder massages, magicians, a
humorous "Miss Guys Night Out"

taurant-lounge in West Bloomfield.
"This year's event had 35 sponsors,
an increase from last year," said Tamir
Oppenheim of West Bloomfield,
executive director of the local Friends
of the IDF chapter. "FIDF initiates
and helps support social, educational,
cultural and recreational programs
for soldiers and provides support for
families of soldiers who have fallen in
defense of Israel."
